The 17th Annual Save The Frogs Day was observed with great enthusiasm at Sri Venkateswara College, University of Delhi, on April 22, 2025, organized by the college in collaboration with SAVE THE FROGS! India. 50 students from various schools and colleges across Delhi-NCR came together to celebrate amphibians and raise awareness about their conservation.
Orientation
The orientation session was conducted by Dr. Robin Suyesh, Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences and a renowned amphibian biologist. His insightful talk focused on the importance of amphibians, the threats they face, and native amphibian species of the Delhi–NCR region. He emphasized their ecological roles as pest controllers and nutrient cyclers, their status as sensitive bioindicators, and the urgent need to protect them from threats such as habitat destruction, pollution, disease, and climate change.
Leap into Facts: Frog Art Poster Challenge
Following the orientation, the "Leap into Facts – Frog Art Poster Challenge" encouraged students to express amphibian facts creatively through art. Over 30 students participated, forming small groups of 1 to 3 members. Each group selected a unique amphibian-related fact, inspired by Dr. Suyesh's session. The chosen themes included the ecological roles of amphibians, their decline due to human activities, and lesser-known local species thriving in urban and semi-urban habitats.
Students translated their knowledge into visually appealing and informative posters, using art as a medium to communicate scientific facts and conservation messages. The session encouraged teamwork, research, science communication, and environmental stewardship.
Overall, the event was a vibrant celebration of amphibians and a strong step forward in fostering a generation of environmentally conscious youth.
